What is Judo ?

Judo is a martial art, a form of unarmed combat that consists of a particular type of wrestling. It is a fully international sport and has been an Olympic sport since the 1964 Tokyo Games, starting as a demonstration sport and becoming a full part of the Olympic programme in the 1972 Munich Games.

There are three aspects of Judo :

1. Self-Defence

2. An exercise in the demonstration of sequences of pre-arranged attacks / defences known as
katas

3. Competitive Judo

The latter of these is the most and most widely practised form.
