The Belgium Trip 2000

 

Over the weekend of 21st / 22nd October 2000 eight members of the Phoenix Judo Club from Benfleet, ranging from 6 years old to 19 years old, went to The Budo Ryu Nagoya Judo Club in Waterloo, Belgium.

On the Saturday there were two excellent training sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

On the Sunday the competition was of a very high standard with players from Belgium, Netherlands, France and Great Britain all competing. All eight players received medals as follows: Christopher Robinson Silver, Ryan Lissamore Gold, Alex Hills Bronze, Danny Cassidy Silver, Garydd Matthews Gold, Rhyanna Matthews Silver, George Cassidy Bronze and Robert Watson Gold.

Also competing from Great Britain was a team of three from the Royal Military College of Science, Oxford. They were accompanied by their Sensei, Mr Mike Ilott (6th Dan) who was instructing on the Saturday. Nic Scott (1st Dan) got a bronze medal, Russell Moody (Blue belt) got a silver medal and Dan Retter (white belt - novice) got a well deserved gold medal by beating a brown belt and a blue belt.

The Phoenix Judo Club and the Royal Military College of Science team were awarded a trophy each for attending the competition.
